With: Nika Khitrova | Andy McQuade | Iaione Perez.

Directors: Julia Stubbs & Timothy Hughes | Designer: Mike Lees | Lighting: Anjali Kale | Sound/Music: Rebecca Richardson | Photographer: Bobbie Bajwa.

In 2009, Julia had the opportunity to co-direct a production with her partner Timothy Hughes. They were asked to realise Burn, a bold, new version of Jean-Paul Sartre’s iconic vision of hell No Exit by the award-winning playwright Andy McQuade for his company Second Skin Theatre.

The location of the piece was now a desert island where the three trapped characters, played by Nika Khitrova, Iaione Perez, and Andy McQuade must fight each other for the hope of redemption.

The production premiered at The Underbelly as part of the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Reviews for Burn

“Andy McQuade’s script is really very good…this is a worthwhile treatment of some bleak but important material.” Fest Magazine

“With a simple stage set and no props and only the occasional sound interlude, this play rests solely on the acting ability of the three characters, and indeed they do a supreme job.” The Edinburgh Guide – Planet Eye
